[Arktwo] Comet

I have been receiving a lot of emails
about the comet.

I have never had much inclination
towards astrology -
but comets have always been seen as
portenders towards catastrophic events.
There is certainly a feeling in the air
among many, many people
that something is about to happen.

If you are following the news
you will know that much is happening
on several fronts:

A. Financial Markets

Well, actually you may not
have seen it in the news.
But Thursday the biggest
financial fire response ever.
(Way past a five alarm blaze -
or even the fire storm
that hit California this month.)

On a financial scale
think of ladder trucks
racing through the streets
and water towers spouting
in ever direction
with helicopter water bombers
whirling overhead.

But -
most of you will not have read about it.
Not that it was a secret.
It was just that the MSM
didn't want to scare you.

What was so dramatic
in the financial world?
Well, the US Federal Reserve
cut its rate
AND
printed up and dumped another
41 billion dollars into the
open market operations.

Only one time in history
did it ever do more.
That was in the month following 9/11
and you know the reason for that.

What is going on now
is the 9/11 of the financial markets.
What is falling down
is not London Bridge
or the WTC towers
but rather the American Financial system.

The world response to the Fed Fire action
was -
the dollar went down to its lowest point.
Bankers may not be jumping out of windows -
but they are jumping out of their companies -
(or being pushed)
but it is not like in the 30s.
Now they have golden parachutes.
The CEO of Merrill Lynch got 141 million -
for leaving.
Tough.
I am sure he laughed all the way down.
I hope that I can.
I have talked enough about
derivatives, CDOs, failing AAA tranches,
bank runs and collapses -
and all that sort of stuff -
so I won't go there again.

B. Pakistan

Well,
things have sort of hit bottom there also.
Bush's ally general there -
pulled his gun and shot democracy dead -
so America ends up supporting
another dictator -
just like it has many places in the world.

It is either that -
or let the radical Islamists take over -
and let them also take over Pakistan's nuclear arsenal -
while they are at it.
If you think that the fire fight
in that circus ring
doesn't excite both Bush and the Israelis -
you aren't following the plot.

C.
Turkey is turning into being a turkey also.
Bush is meeting with the President of Turkey
tomorrow -
who is supposedly holding off an invasion
of Northern Iraq -
(although everything is all lined up -
and sorties, incursions and bombings
are taking place -
but none of that counts -
until they say it counts.)

Iran may want a part of that also -
but anyway -
so what.
One more war -
when there are so many.
Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey -
and Lebanon and Syria also
have been very much rattling their chains
this week.

D. Gaza
Then the big news today -
is that the US has given Israel
the go ahead on Gaza.
That is to be found in Israeli newspapers -
if not in US ones.

Do you see where all this is going?
China and Russia think that they do.
I could go on about a lot of other stuff -
but the question here (facetiously) was -
"Is the comet causing it?"
Whether or not the comet is causing it -
things do appear to be moving
in heaven and earth.

Lots of emails coming to me this week -
(from a writer's group
of which I am a member)
on the subject of -
Synchronicity.

Synchronicity is when what may otherwise
be random events
seem in some way to be related.

For example -
this afternoon I needed a couple of aspirin -
for an experiment -
and since I never get headaches
we didn't have any in the house.

So I went to the neighbour to borrow some
and he came to door
and happened to be holding in his hand
a brand new unopened bottle of aspirin.
Coincidence - or Synchronicity?

Anyway,
think of it what you will -
but this particular comet is certainly different.
It has just exploded -
and has thus become visible to the naked eye.

Want to see something
that human beings have never seen before?
Tomorrow, Monday morning, Nov. 5th,
is the day to do it.
At 5:15 EST.
(I hope you put your clocks back).

Anyway -
hop out of bed
and head off to a hill top.
There look to the East -
and see the astoundingly bright light -
of the planet Venus a bit below the moon.
And above Venus there is Mars -
and above Mars -
Saturn.
That is quite a line up in itself -
but then spin around
180 degrees from where you see Saturn
and there you should see
the white puff ball of Comet 17P/Holmes.

At that same time you may spot
two other bright moving lights -
because the Space Station has spread its wings -
and is now its brightest ever -
and at 5:32 a.m. -
the Space shuttle Discovery is scheduled to leave
the International Space Station (ISS) -
so that would be awesome to see.

One little fly in my ointment here -
and that is it is cloudy.
Oh well,
even a day or two afterwards -
I may be able to see some part of the events.

Speaking of Synchronicity.
Some of the emails about comets -
have been quoting particular Bible verses -
and one of them included a poem.

Unknown to the writer -
the poem, hymn,
was written by a distant relative
of my wife.
A maternal uncle on her father's side -
and after whom both her father
and our son was named.
Many of Bonar’s hymns are published
in the United Church Hymnal.

Now then -
if you will -
I would like for you
to participate in a synchronistic experience.
It is important that you do this -
as I say.
DO NOT SKIM OVER IT.

STOP right here.
Take three deep breaths.
Calm yourself.
I hope that you are where
you can read this out loud -
and you must read it fairly loud -
don't mumble it.

You must read it in a particular manner.
I hope you have had the experience
as a child
of singing hymns in church.
To have the experience -
you must read this out loud -
with that cadence and meter.
