Blood Moon
Tonight,
this very night,
Saturday the 3rd of March, 2007
there will be played out in heavens
an astronomical event
which is very unusual
in that it will be
visible from every continent on the earth.
Some will say
an astrological event.
It is certainly an event
with deep historical
(if not prophetic) significance.
This is a historical event
similar to an entertaining drama
of Shakespeare
and indeed is related
to the story of Esther in the Bible.
It is a story that had its beginning
in the history of the Persians
(who are now called Iranians)
and their conflict with the Jews.
The principle characters of the play
are:
The Persian King Ahasuerus
Haman the king's counsellor
Mordecai the Jew
Esther the king's consort
(and who was also the niece (actually cousin)
of Mordecai -
unbeknownst to the other players).
The setting took place
over 400 years before Christ -
and the plot in brief was that
Haman became incensed that Mordecai,
held him in disdain and refused obeisance.
Haman, therefore convinced the King
that the Jews
living under Persian rule were rebellious
and should be slaughtered.
With the King's consent,
Haman set a date for the execution
(the 13th day of the month of Adar)
by casting lots
and built a gallows for Mordecai.
The plot works out
in a manner reminiscent to me
of a Shakespearean
'As You Like It'
or
'Midsummer Night's Dream'.
Haman is not aware
that Mordecai has done the King
a great favour -
and the king says to Haman -
Esther 6:6
What shall be done
unto the man
whom the king delighteth to honour?
Now Haman thought in his heart,
To whom would the king delight
to do honour
more than to myself?
6:7 And Haman answered the king,
For the man
whom the king delighteth to honour,
6:8 Let the royal apparel be brought
which the king useth to wear,
and the horse that the king rideth upon,
and the crown royal
which is set upon his head:
6:9 And let this apparel
and horse be delivered to the hand
of one of the king's most noble princes,
that they may array the man withal
whom the king delighteth to honour,
and bring him on horseback
through the street of the city,
and proclaim before him,
Thus shall it be done to the man
whom the king delighteth to honour.
6:10 Then the king said to Haman,
Make haste,
and take the apparel and the horse,
as thou hast said,
and do even so to Mordecai the Jew,
that sitteth at the king's gate:
let nothing fail
of all that thou hast spoken.
And so it was
that Haman -
the chief of the Princes
ended up leading
old Mordecai the Jew
on horseback through the city.
He was chagrined.
And so the tale progresses -
to the point
where Haman ends up
being hung on the gallows
that he had prepared for Mordecai.
A delightful and entertaining tale -
and if you have not had the pleasure
of reading it
may I refer you to the Book of Esther
in the Bible.
In the tale
are the roots of many historical events.
The Persian religion of Zoroastrianism
and the current day Jewish celebrations
of Purim,
because this is the historical date
and event
from which the Jews threw off the yoke
of the Persians (the modern day Iranians).
Once again -
the Jews and Israel
are threatened with annihilation
by the Persians.
Indeed,
the present president of Iran
has said that an astounding event
will be forthcoming on the
Persian / Zoroastrian New Year
that occurs at the Spring Equinox
on March 21st, this year.
Ahhh,
sun, moon and stars -
how they swirl above our heads.
To what destiny -
none but God knows.
But in the Jewish Old Testament
it says:
Joel 2:31
The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood,
before the great and terrible day of the LORD come.
This theme -
of the blood moon
is oft repeated in
religious literature.
In the New Testament:
Acts 2:20
The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood,
before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
And in Revelation 6:12
there is again mention of the moon.
And for my LDS friends;
D&C 29:14, D&C 34:9 D&C 45:42
the moon shall be turned into blood
D&C 88:87
the moon shall be bathed in blood

and lasts until 6:58 p.m.
A further historical coincidence -
regarding the Persian New Year
being on the 21st of March.
The invasion of Iraq
began on March 20, 2003.
So -
here we are
four years later
as the Divine Comedy
enters its final acts.
Those who have no taste
for my poetic
and mystical speculations
will not be amused.
But astronomical -
rather astrological prophecies -
can be self-fulfilling
if enough people believe in them.
Certainly -
rabbis in Israel have taken note
of all this -
and Iranians also -
because Persia is the home stomping ground
for much of the history
of astrology.
Yesterday evening -
I stood beneath the clear sky
and observed the full moon in the east.
Tonight -
clear skies
and God willing
I shall look up to the Blood Moon.
If you wish to participate
with others
the world over -
may you be favoured by location
and clear skies.
Should that not be available to you -
I offer you here a photo.

The phenomena occurs regularly
in the fall
and sometimes is called the hunter's moon
because of the contrast
between the hunters slipping
silently through the snow
seeking their quarry
by the light of the blood red moon.
It oftentimes appears
less dramatically
than in the photo -
but what is particularly
unusual about this time
is both the timing -
and that it may be seen
so universally.
For those desiring
a scientific explanation -
that can be readily found
with google -
but all 'miraculous' phenomena
have a 'scientific' explanation.
It makes life
no less miraculous -
or entertaining to observe.
Middle East events
continue apace.
I have restrained myself
from commenting upon them
for the last several weeks.
Whatever is stated -
by one party or another -
is repudiated within hours -
and then the repudiation is reputed.
There is nothing that I could say
but that there would be some
who could quote a source
to contradict it.
Information is very difficult to acquire -
and there is naught
but that I doubt its accuracy.
However, since I am writing -
I will present my summary observations,
of what has happened in the last few weeks.
One may wonder
how long the US
will continue to defend
Iran.
The story -
a few weeks ago
was that the US had turned back
Israeli nuclear armed planes
at the 180 turn-a-round point.
Possibly true -
but if the US had not turned them back
I feel sure they would have
turned back anyway.
And the next time.
And the next time.
Just testing.
But eventually -
when they were sure
that the way was clear.
So -
it is the US that protects
Iran from Israel -
for now.
Another story was that
three states,
Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates,
have told the United States
that they would not object
to Israel using their airspace,
despite their fear of an Iranian response.
Twice denied -
but the Book says -
it must be thrice denied -
before the cock cries.

on those matters:

Further to my summary -
I see very rapid arms build up
by Hamas in Gaza
and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
There is a story that Israel
destroyed an arms smuggling tunnel
in Gaza
and smoke at the other end of the tunnel
came out in a military camp
in Egypt.
If true -
I am sure the Israelis weren't amused.
Initial source
for many of the advanced arms
being stockpiled by the Muslims
is reputedly Russia,
but Iran builds many of its own.
Iran of course continues
to press ahead with its nuclear plans,
which won't be stopped by
Russia or China -
or the UN.
If the world won't stop them -
then it is up to
the Little Red Hen -
in this case -
Israel.
The question is -
"Who cares?".
Turns out in recent days -
less and less Muslim countries -
because they find themselves
equally threatened by Iran -
and are not really wanting
a nuclear race in the Middle East.
The bigger question is -
will Russia and China stand back?
But -
in the final analysis -
all that speculation
amounts to little also -
because the reality is
that there are so many factors -
geopolitical -
economic -
religious -
technological -
going on that no human minds -
or computers -
can figure out how
this chess game is going to play out.
>From whatever perspective
you wish to analyze it -
geopolitical -
economic -
religious -
technological -
it should be pretty apparent
that things are about to wrap
without bringing
the stars into it.
So much for all that.
Now it is time
for me to go out
and howl at the moon.
Peace and love,
Bruce
