[Arktwo] Shelter In Place

The current buzz phrase is:

	"Shelter In Place"

Personally,
I would rather hear that people have
a shelter in place.

But - anyway,
it has now become rather apparent
that the responsibility
for providing a fallout shelter
is all up to each individual family.

Okay,
given that most people haven't built shelters -
and that they aren't going to follow
my first three prime directives -
which are:

	1. Get out of the cities!
	2. Get out of the cities!
	3. Get out of the cities!

Here is a new plan -
because I agree -
'bug out' is not going to work.

You can go with my new plan
or you can go with
the official government plan -
and buy a lot of duct tape
and plastic sheeting -
which is really not all that bad a plan
because they will provide a convenient way
to improvise body bags.

A typical request
for what to do -
(when one feels they can't move -
and they can't bury a shelter -
because of the water table)
came from a lady
who lives near an AFB in Florida.

I told her -
I wouldn't worry too much about the AFB
unless it plays some particular strategic role,
but somewhere like Orlando
is probably pretty far down the list
of target priorities.

The nearness to water
and sea level
is a greater concern IMO.

Building in an interior room of a home
could be quite feasible.

Now is the time to have
a couple of big loads of dry sand delivered.
Cover it with a tarp
so that it stays dry.

First put down a few sheets of plywood or scrap metal
to have the sand dumped on -
so that it will be easy to shovel it off.

Get a bunch (hundreds) of heavy duty garbage bags
and a couple of good wheelbarrows
and three or four good 'square' shovels -
for loading the sandbags.

When the time comes -
don't overfill the sandbags
(so they won't be too heavy to lift).
Stack the sandbags two or three feet deep (outwards)
around the OUTSIDE of the walls
of the room
you are converting for protection.
Stack them as high as the ceiling is
inside the room.

I am assuming this is a slab home.
Otherwise you will need to support the floor from below,
and possibly even provide some radiation protection
from there.

Line the two LONGEST sides
of the INSIDE of the protection room
with concrete blocks
to a height of two or three feet
BELOW the ceiling.
Lay beams for a rafter
(even two by fours -
but thicker is better)
ten inches apart
on top of the blocks from one side
to the other
of the shortest width.
A longer narrower room works best.

Estimate how many concrete blocks
and beams you will need
to do the above -
and store them on your site.

On top of the beams
put three quarter inch plywood
(again stored ahead of time)
and fill the two to three foot gap
to the ceiling with more sandbags.
(You probably won't be able
to stand up in the protection room).
If there is a second story above
You can put a layer of sandbags there
instead of just above the false ceiling
that you are building.
If using a second floor -
make sure the sand bags extend out
to the edge of the sandbags
in the rooms around the protection room.

If the protection room is very wide
you may need to run beams
below the rafters that you have put in.
Brace these beams with 'ceiling jacks'
that you can get ahead of time
from any good building supply.

You must pay special attention
to build an entrance way
in the same way as described above -
which is usually very difficult -
or you can more simply
get four good (clean inside)
strong steel barrels
and have both ends cut off ahead of time.

These can then be laid
in an "L" shape
going in the doorway -
and covered over to the same
two or three foot depth
on ALL sides and their tops
with sand bags.
A little ingenuity will be needed
at the corner of the "L".
Look for a good strong wooden box -
or something.
You can even build around
a STRONG table -
if it is high enough
so that you can crawl through the barrels
and under (through) it.

Figure out the number of square feet
that will be in the room
and divide by twenty -
and that will tell you how many people it will hold.
The bigger the better -
because then you can have that number of neighbours
to help you fill sandbags -
and you need brainpower and manpower -
to operate the shelter.

You will probably have a number of hours
in which to accomplish the assembly.
(Even a day or two after the bombs fall elsewhere).
Google the phrase "Kearney Air Pump"
and build one ahead of time.

Consider -
water supply -
food supply -
lighting and battery supply -
radio -
and most certainly radiation detection equipment,
and KI pills.

All of this -
including the supplies
will cost you less
that a couple of thousand dollars.

I welcome any suggested
cost saving improvements in design.

Good idea to print off ahead of time -
some information about radiation -
and while I don't think you will have
that kind of warning -
(unless you consider this to be it)
you can print off
Shane's Info Sheet.

http://www.ki4u.com/guide.htm

How much closer to the event -
do you wish to be warned?

If you knew for certain
and had a day's warning -
what would you do?

If you knew for certain
and had a week's warning -
what would you do?

If you knew for certain
and had a month's warning -
what would you do?

If you knew for certain
and had two month's warning -
what would you do?

Of course most people
don't see the current situation
as being all that threatening.

The stock market is nearing
its highest point ever.

A gigantic new oil discovery
has been reported
in the Gulf.
(Although it probably is not all
that it is being shouted to be -
because of its depth and other problems).

Some people tell me
that the US is winding down
its operation in Iraq.
I think they mistake -
(as I tell them) -
more with being less.

US Central Command head General John Abizaid told defense reporters last
week any previous plans to draw down US troops in Iraq had been put off
until at least next spring, and the force level might even go up.

"I think these are prudent force levels," Abizaid said of the current
contingent. "We'll bring in more forces if we have to."

---------------

In the last two weeks -
I have told you:

1. About the biggest Euro naval build-up
   since WW2
(and under the command of a vice-admiral)

2. That Gary Hart thinks there will be
	an October surprise.

http://www.co.nz/stories/HL0609/S00373.htm

"It should come as no surprise if the Bush Administration undertakes a
preemptive war against Iran sometime before the November election."

3. The USS Eisenhower being headed for the Gulf
and to be on site by Oct. 21st.
	   (although denied by the Pentagon).

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20061009/lindorff

with some of its officers complaining
	and writing to their congressmen
that Bush has no right to be
	attacking Iran
	without a declaration by Congress.

4. Turkey and Iran sending troops into Iraq -
and aligning them on their borders.
(Also reports of special US troops -
	 inside Iran).

5. Hezbollah moving troops to Israeli / Lebanese border
with UNIFIL doing nothing about it.

6. Hezbollah moving arms and rockets
	into Palestinian Refugee Camps -
with UNIFIL doing nothing about it.

7. Syrian troops being activated.

8. That retired US Generals and Admirals
are saying that Bush is about to
	attack Iran
	and that is a mistake.

9. That action against Iran and Syria
have been placed at the top
	of Israel's military agenda
	with special appointments
	to that end.

10. That new military technology
is being quickly put in place
by a number of countries including Iran
	including the passive radar system
	from the Ukraine,
	the TOR ABMs from Russia,
and now today a new laser ABM system
	reported from China.

11. Adding to all this -
	all the Muslim noise
	about various terrorist groups
	preparing responses to the
	statements and actions
	by the Pope and Bush
	(perhaps during Ramadan).

12. And of course the whole nuke scene
	with North Korea and Iran.

To think that all this
has happened (or is happening)
in this very week.

It used to be -
that the view that the world
is headed towards nuclear war
was only held by
a crazy old coot up in Canada
with 42 buried school buses -
and you wouldn't see in a years time
a single other person holding the view
that now we hear from so many quarters.

There are lots of world leaders -
(although they don't make a big thing
of about talking about it publicly) -
that think Bush and Israel
are about to do something about Iran -
and I don't mean just
give them another diplomatic deadline.

But -
the world is made up of people
of opposite views.
That is why the stock market works.
There always has be some people
willing to sell when others buy -
and vice / versa.

Right now there are more people wanting to buy -
than there are wanting to sell -
and that is supposedly why the market
(the price of stocks) is going up.

There may be other explanations
about why the price of gasoline
is going down -
with the election coming up -
but I won't go there.

Nope,
according to the MSM
things are looking better and better -
with gas down,
stock market up,
new oil discoveries,
plans to wind down Iraq,
the war on terrorism being won,
and just don't rain on the President's parade.

So -
that is the way most people see it
and if that is the way
that you see it -
then you won't be interested in
the plans that I have presented today.

Peace and love,
Bruce
